Katherine's Stamping with Heart

This fun card can be adapted for any occasion, and it can even be a gift card holder!

Supplies:

8 ½ x 11 Pop Tones cardstock (I used Blue Raspberry as the card, Whipped Cream for the stamped pieces, and Grape Jelly for the slide-out section).

Stamps and Inks (I used Close to My Heart’s Black and Sunset inks and Party Animal Acrylix stamp set)

9 ½ x 7 ½” patterned paper (I used CTMH’s Hooligans paper)

Adhesive- I used Tombow, pop dots and liquid glue

Ribbon – about 5”

1 ¼” circle punch (I used Close to My Heart’s)

Stapler

Other embellishments as desired – (I used a chipboard number, flock, adhesive glitter dots)

Step 1:

Score the cardstock you’ve chosen for your card on the 3 ½” and 7 ½” marks on the 11” side. Using bone folder, crease folds well.

Step 2:

Mark the center of one side of the middle panel of the card. Position a 1 ¼” circle punch centered on the mark. Punch a semi-circle from the middle panel.

Step 3. Folding one side in at a time, use the center panel as a guide to punch semi-circles on the other two panels. ** NOTE** Please do one panel at a time. If you try to punch all three sides at once, you could damage your punch!

Step 4: Adhere the edges and one end of the card together. Use the bone folder to ensure all edges line up neatly.

Step 5: Adhere patterned paper to the card base. I wrapped the paper around the card first and used my bone folder to make crisp score lines.

Step 6: Cut a 3 ½” x 7 ½” piece of complementary cardstock for your pull-out part of the card.

Step 7: Stamp images on a 3” x 5” piece of neutral cardstock as desired. I used 2 way glue to add flock to the monster images (which makes them fuzzy!) I also stamped the image and used a pop dot to give it dimension.

Step 8: Adhere stamped images to a 3 ¼”x 5 ¼” mat, then adhere to card front. Embellish as desired. Attach the ribbon, folded in half, by stapling the ribbon to the back of your pull out section. You can use glue dots to hold a gift card onto the pull-out section, if desired.

It's almost that time...

Back to School? It's sneaking up on us! The office supply stores are starting Back-to-School sales already!

I always like to start a new school year off right with a small goodie and card for my son's teacher. For this project, I wanted to showcase a spotlight stamping technique which is pretty neat. This technique allows you to color a smaller portion of your image to highlight that part of the image.

Supplies:
8 ½ x 11 Pop Tones Cardstock in Sour Apple and Red Hot
8 ½ x 11 Curious Metallic in Cryogen White
Stamp Set (I used Taylored Expressions Teacher Desk Cuppie and Close to My Heart’s In the Month of August set)
Inks (I used CTMH Tulip, Versa Mark Watermark and Memento Black Tuxedo)
Markers ( I used Copic G02, G05, YG11, YG13, BG13, BG15, Y26, Y28, R24, R27, E37 and N3)
2” circle punch (I used Fiskars Round and Round Large punch)
1 ¼” circle punch (I used CTMH)
Ribbon, brads and button
3D Foam tape
Glue dots
Baker’s Twine

Step One: Cut 8 ½ x 11 POP TONES Sour Apple Cardstock to 8 ½ x 5 ½. Score to create a 4 ¼ x 5 ½” card. Using Versa Mark ink, randomly stamp card front with image. (Apple from CTMH’s In the Month of August stamp set).

Step Two:
Cut 3 x 3 square from 8 ½ x 11 Cryogen White Cardstock. Cut 3 ¼ x 3 ¼ square from Red Hot cardstock. Stamp image on White Cardstock. Stamp sentiment on White Cardstock using Tuxedo Black ink. Mat to Red Hot cardstock.

Step Three:
Using another piece of Cryogen White large enough for your stamped image, re-stamp the image using Tuxedo Black Ink. Color the portion of the image you’d like to highlight. Punch out using large circle punch. If necessary, color in missed portions of the image.

Step Four: Using 3D foam tape, adhere colored circle over stamped image.

Step Five: Cut ribbon to about 5 ¾” Adhere to center of card, trim excess.

Step Six: Using piercing tool or pushpin, pierce three holes in the lower left corner of the card. Place and set brads in the holes.

Step Seven: Using Cryogen White cardstock and Tulip Ink, stamp image and punch out using 1 ¼” punch. Adhere to lower right corner of the card. Adhere a red button with bakers twine if desired.

I am so excited to be a featured artist for this blog! CutCardstock.com is one of my favorite online resources for all things Krafty - get it ? Krafty - as in Kraft paper... I really like the Brown Bag line of products they carry. Not only do they have the #65 Cover weight, which makes great card bases or scrapbook layout bases, but they also have 70# Text weight papers. These text weight papers are handtinted and very cool.

When I opened the Brown Bag Assortment pack, I was thrilled with the variety of beautiful, rich colors available! For my card, I used the Brown Bag #70 text in Blueberry, Mushroom, Olive and Pepper. I also used the Kraft 65# cover for my card base.

I couldn't resist making my own stripes using strips of varying widths (1/8", 1/4", 1/2" ). The stamps are Close to My Heart, and the inks are Close to My Heart Olive and Indian Corn Blue. I used a 1/4" circle punch on some scrap Kraft cover to make the dots on the upper left, and I used 1" and 1 1/4" circle punches to create the circles on the right. Perfect for a male graduate!

Hi friends! I have recently discovered Cut Cardstock. com and I am so excited to tell you what wonderful service I got there . I found them through ebay - believe it or not - but they had the cryogen cardstock I was looking for. Luckily for me, they are nearly in my backyard! So, I ordered via phone and was able to pick up my order the SAME DAY. I made a pal, Tyler, who works there and likes paper ALMOST as much as I do! :) He helped me find some other great cardstock and next I'll be ordering some envelopes.

Hi there! I'm participating in the Fiskateers Orange Blog Hop this weekend! I'm so excited to be a part of it - I love Fiskars products (who doesn't?) and they are so awesome to sponsor a great community of fellow crafters called Fiskateers!

Orange always reminds me of Halloween - so I could not resist making a few fall cards.

Supplies all Close to My Heart: Sunset Cardstock, Sunset Ink, Gypsy Cardstock, Gypsy Ink, Black embossing Powder, Sunset Mini Medley Accents, Pear Cardstock, Hooligans Paper Pack and Thriller Stamp Set. Also used Versa Mark ink for embossing.

This funny Turkey is made using a Big Pinks Just Blooms flower by Close to My Heart. Supplies include Pewter Brads, Say it in Style Stamp set, Cocoa Ink, Orange Re-inker, Bamboo, Barn Red, Cocoa and Vanilla Cream Cardstocks, Cherry O Creative Basics paper, pop dots all by Close to My Heart. Turkey die by Quikutz and Tuscan Sun Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels.

The turkey's feathers really look more orange in person. I used a waterbrush to add re-inker to the flower until it was the color I liked, then I added the glimmer mist on top.

This card is the "matchbox" card from Close to My Heart's how-to guide, Originals. Supplies: Sparkles - unknown, Versa Mark Ink, Sunset cardstock, Sunset Ink, Smokey Plum Cardstock, Black Embossing Powder, Black cardstock, Shimmer brads all by Close to My Heart and Silver glimmer mist by Tattered Angels.

I used the silver glimmer mist to add some shimmer to the paper before I embossed the card. I am not thrilled with the way the photo turned out, I may have my dear husband try again and I'll repost the photo later.

Sweet Sunday Sketch

Wow! Where have I found the time to be so crafty? Today's artwork is inspired by my favorite holiday, Halloween and the Sweet Sunday Sketch #84. I just love following sketches to put my own spin on things!

I really love the new Close to My Heart Colors of Lagoon, Pear and Sunset, which happen to be the colors I've chosen for my Halloween card. This fun witch stamp and greeting are from Close to My Heart's Fright Night Set.

Supplies: Fiskars border punch (wave), EK Success punch (spiderweb), B1359 Fright Night stamp set, pear ink, pear cardstock, lagoon cardstock, white daisy cardstock, sunset cardstock and Hooligans paper pack all Close to My Heart.

Stamptacular Sunday Distressing Challenge

Wow! That makes it sound like it was a troublesome challenge! This week's challenge at Stamptacular Sunday's Challenge Blog LOL I love distressing: adding ink, sanding, tearing - you name it! These cards I made for my step son's 17th birthday and my brother's 30th which they both celebrate this weekend. (my brother is still a kid at heart).

All supplies by Close to My Heart: Sarsparilla paper pack, Game On paper pack, X-treme stamp set, black and desert sand inks, versa mark ink and black embossing powder. The layers are inked, crinkled and sanded.

Time Flies!

Wow! Is it really the last week of July aleady?? My birthday last week signaled what I have always considered as the "wind down" of summer. *sigh* Even though it's been hot, I am not ready for summer to end!!

I have been absent this month on the blog - which I feel badly about. I have tons of great art from CTMH convention to share, but haven't finished photographing everything yet. Look out for the photos in the next few days!

This card was based on the pattern, from Wishes. I used a paper piecing technique with the balloons, and did a double mask for the hedgehog - once for his "prickles" and once for his body. I think these little hedgehogs are the cutest!! They are so much fun - flying a kite, playing with a butterfly and just plain ol' looking cute!

Embellish Magazine Color Challenge

I LOVE color challenges - Embellish Magazine's challenge was brown, yellow and coral. The other guideline was that the card have a tag/label. A card for my friend

I found a fun challenge at Crafts and Me Challenges to make a card for a special person. Since I can't get enough of the Splendor paper pack by Close to My Heart, I wanted to use it to make a happy card. This cute bird is from the Hot Diggity set, also CTMH. I think he's so cute and it's such a happy card. happy and Day satmps are by The Stamps of Life. My friend Amy has just decided to leave work to be a full time mommy to her beautiful daughter, Eva. I am so happy for her! (It's also her birthday Sunday, so it's a double duty card - thus Happy Day, not Happy Birthday!) lol!

When I found this stamp set on someone's blog, I HAD to have it! Everyone knows what a Close to My Heart Junkie I am, so it suprised even ME when I found a stamp from another company that I loved! This little guy is by My Cute Stamps called Pirate Boy. Maybe it's the idea of Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at 40" but I really do love him! Used my copic markers to color and Fiskars punch for the waves. I also played with my Flower Soft Ultrafine fuzz... It is plasticky and feels like sand... I used the sand color on this card for the beach. FUN!!

I missed the deadline for Heart 2 Heart Challenge's sketch last week, but I made this card using a photo of my son at his first White Sox game, so it works for THIS week's challenge - art with a photo on it! A fun Fiskateer Challenge

I am excited to share a layout I created based on a challenge set forth by Wendy Jo, a Fiskateer. She wanted us to use a quote from Alice in Wonderland, which is so much fun! I used CTMH Starstruck paper pack, Hodgepodge alphabet stamps and Fiskars punches. It's hard to believe it's been more than a year since this trip! Look for more art soon. This was TOO easy to post to!

Convention Application in the Mail!!

WHEW!! As some of you know, my application for teaching at the Close to My Heart convention was due postmarked yesterday. I worked on art all weekend, and Jim did my videotaped demo for them Sunday night. I have taught at our convention in the past, and it was such a great experience. This year, the classes will be twice as long as before, and I'll get to see more consultants than ever. I almost didn't have the nerve to do the video and almost scrapped the whole thing, but I LOVE teaching. I have such a blast with my clubs and workshops, and so now it's the suspense of waiting to hear if I'm chosen. I should've thought to post pictures of my art - but honestly, I didn't even take photos, because I wanted those things in the box and sent out! :)

I am going to post some other art later this week - I made a very blingy 40th Birthday card for my sister in law - and I like the way it turned out.

A day late?

Ok, so here I go... it's nearly bedtime for me, but remembered my once a week promise for the blog. Sundays are actually the best day for me to get things done, so I think I'll say as long as I blog before Monday, then I'm on time. Ha!! Not sure if anyone ever reads this even....

I'm planning an Uppercase Living project night, cute things, lots of fun... so we'll see if I can get the email out in the next day or so. Things are so busy with Thanksgiving coming up. I am doing baking for the big day - I'm in charge of desserts and rolls. Not a problem.

Weekly Update

Well, here I go. I think I missed my posting last week by a few days, but I'll make up for it this week! We had a busy week, I gave blood for the first time. *gasp* but I made it through! :) I really get kind of panicky with things like that, so I have to say I think I did ok!

We had dinner with my in laws on Wednesday to see them off to Phoenix - and to celebrate my niece Allyson's 2nd birthday a few days early. It is so amazing to see how fast my nieces and nephews grow. Can't wait to get to Salt Lake and meet the niece who's due around Christmas. We're playing it by ear now, because flights that way are expensive when it snows.

Otherwise, that's about it. At the end of the week, maybe I'll post some artwork.

New Goal: Blog once a week!

Here goes nothing! I'm going to blog once a week! Tonight I had a fun Christmas Card workshop that I'm repeating tomorrow with my pal Melanis. We have different styles, which is fun because then folks get a mix of cards they may not have gotten with just one of us. I love to stamp and play, and I feel badly that I haven't shared things on the blog that I've done. It's the taking a photo and posting it thing, but I'll try. Look for more fun things soon!

Well, hasn't it been a while? Today is Evan's last day of Kindergarten Readiness camp. I think he's enjoyed it, although "They're killing me with these letters." Ha! I can't wait to remind him of that in a few years! Things have been busy with us - work has been crazy for me and honestly the time just slips away. Kindergarten starts on August 19, I will post pictures when he starts. I can't believe that this time is here, it seems like just yesterday we were staring at our baby in his crib in awe.

Well, I am HOPING to be creative in the next few days. I am excited that we are going to my grandpa's farm for a few days to see out of town relatives that I haven't seen in at least 10 years. I think the photos from the reunion will be great scrapbook material! (Always plotting, I know!)

Thanks for hanging in there with me through the unposted time. I'm going to try and be better.

Where does the time go?

I can't believe we are at the end of June already! Where does the time go? We had a great time with my stepson last week, went to the Field Museum, where we saw the Pirates exhibit. It was really very interesting and we had some fun together! The time with Anthony always goes by in a flash, and I know Evan is really missing his big brother. We've been working with Evan on some kindergarten preparation, which he is really enjoying - loves to do worksheets and projects! I have my club make up session tonight, looking forward to seeing everyone. My $12 Tuesday workshops so far have been a hit. This weekend I'll be working on the schedule to set up the rest of the summer! K

Open House THIS Friday!

I am so excited about my open house this Friday. I LOVE the new Idea Book and can't wait to share it with everyone... Of course, I am revamping my craft room right now, and my workshop area looks like a tornado hit it, but things always come together just in time (thanks, Jim!) . I still have some art to create, and snacks to prepare, but hey, it's only Tuesday. If that pesky work didn't get in the way.... :)

Looking forward to sharing with everyone on Friday - and I have the 11-11 crop on Saturday, for National Scrapbooking Day. I am hoping we'll have a bunch of fun!

Wow - in one week's time, we've signed Evan up for Kindergarten and watched him turn 5. I have warned the guys that I can't reallly handle much other stress, so we'll see if they lay low for a while! We had a great time celebrating Evan's birthday several times - with his friends, with our family, at preschool, and at Chuck E Cheese with Uncle Kraig. Photos will follow soon!

As I look back, I can hardly believe it's been 5 years since two became three... How blessed we are to have such a kind hearted, sweet boy!

Just getting ready for my stamping club tonight. I am so excited about CTMH's new Summer Idea Book, I can't wait to share with everyone! I hope that I have a great turn out to my open house on May 1. I have a great make and take project planned and hope to have some workshops together for folks to take advantage of.

I am feeling lucky! My first artwork post to my blog was randomly selected to win an awesome prize from Card Patterns and Scrap My Memories! I am shocked, to say the least. Sweet husband posted the photo for me, I really need to learn how to operate this blog! :) We're planning on a SLOW weekend, which is good. I need to do our taxes, and then I get to play stamping! I love what I do! I just got a brand new CTMH paper pack on Wednesday, Tickled Pink. I am SO excited about it that I started playing that night! In the next day or so I'll post the pictures.

Wow! It's been a while since I've had those words apply to me! I guess with 18+ inches of snow and more to come, it's expected. Evan and I get to stay home with a fire in the fireplace and play all day. I will do some stamping today, and see if I can figure out blogging!
